The Special Collections of the University of Leeds Library are outstanding in depth, breadth and quality. Five were designated as of international significance in 2005 under the Museums Libraries and Archive Council Designation scheme. The collections underpin a wide range of teaching and research within the University and it is a key part of the Library’s strategic plan to strengthen these links with academic colleagues still further. Special Collections also play a role within the University’s community engagement agenda and there are ambitious proposals to increase awareness and appreciation among the general public. You will have responsibility for the operation and development of the service which is based in the iconic Brotherton Library in the heart of the University campus. You will be a member of the Library’s Leadership Team which drives the strategic direction of the Library as a whole.
You will be expected to have a good degree in a discipline appropriate to the collections together with a professional qualification in librarianship or an associated field and/or substantial experience in a similar organisation. You will also have an understanding of the role of the Library, and especially Special Collections, in a research-intensive University
