The Particle Physics Research Centre (PPRC) at Queen Mary University of London has a vacancy for an e-Science Impact Reporter to work on the e-ScienceTalk project. e-ScienceTalk is a European Commission funded project which communicates the importance of e-science technologies, such as grid computing, clouds, supercomputing and volunteer computing to an audience of policy makers, scientists and the general public. Its activities include:

- developing an online e-Science city which will build upon the award-winning website GridCafé, and explain e-science technologies such as clouds and supercomputing to the general public;

- e-ScienceBriefings which give policy makers an insight into issues important to the e-Science community;
- GridGuide, an interactive map showing the places and faces behind the grid;
- the weekly online science newsletter iSGTW;
- the Real Time Monitor, a visualisation tool which shows what grid jobs are going on around the world.

The successful applicant will work alongside colleagues at partner sites at CERN, Geneva, the design agency APO in France, Imperial College London and EGI.eu in Amsterdam. The applicant will lead the policy, impact and sustainability work package for the project and will be primarily involved with writing policy related content for the e-ScienceBriefings, for iSGTW and also attending policy oriented events around Europe. They will contribute to reports on the impact and sustainability of the e-ScienceTalk products and also run GridCast blogs from e-Science events around the world, including recruiting bloggers, writing content and interviewing delegates. Depending on the skill set of the applicant there are also opportunities for further science writing, creating content for the e-ScienceTalk suite of products and website development. The post is advertised on a fulltime basis.

Applicants should have a degree in a science or communications related subject and demonstrated experience of science writing for a range of audiences and an excellent understanding of science policy in Europe. The post would be based at Queen Mary but will require occasional travel both within the UK and internationally.
