Dear all
Thanks again to the Cambridge team for all their work on the 2011
Seattle Club conference that finished yesterday.
We've been very fortunate to receive two firm offers and potentially
another to organise events from 2012 onwards.
So, I'm pleased to announce that it looks like we'll be doing a set of
North-South hops in the next few years (which seems good in terms of
travel for people spread around the UK):
the Seattle Club conference in 2012 will be in Cumbria, led by Dave Dagnan
the Seattle Club for 2013 will probably be in South Wales hosted by
Stuart Todd and Ruth Northway and the UniGlam team
Debbie Riby in Newcastle has offered to organise a future Seattle Club
too, so that may well be for 2014 a good few years then since the
conference was first in Newcastle
Thanks to everyone who has selflessly offered to keep the life in the
Seattle Club research conference. It seems to me that there is still the
need for a regular place where researchers in ID/DD can meet to talk
about their latest data. A friendly (if tough sometimes!) venue for
early career researchers to present is also clearly needed. We do need
to work hard to ensure that a new generation of researchers continue to
come through so that the field can continue to make a difference. Now
more so than ever when the economic and social change we are
experiencing will challenge the most vulnerable in society.
Best wishes and Nadolig Llawen
Richard
