I would like two announce two PhD positions in forensic probability and statistics at the UvA and VU-University (the Netherlands).
The first project is a collaboration between UvA (mathematics and chemistry) and the NFI (Netherlands Forensic Institute), and deals with the evidential value of comprehensive two-dimensional chromatographic methods. This project is supervised by Marjan Sjerps (UvA, NFI) and Gabriel Vivo-Truyols (UvA). The ideal candidate should have a degree in mathematics, physics, applied statistics, computer science or equivalent discipline, and have some proficiency in programming languages (e.g. Matlab). The second project is a collaboration between the UvA, VU University, NFI, the Supreme Court of the Netherlands, and the University of Groningen, and deals with combining evidence in legal casework. This project is supervised by Marjan Sjerps (UvA, NFI) and Ronald Meester (VU). We are looking for a candidate with an interest in applied statistics and probability, and in the legal domain. Candidates should have a Master’s degree in pure or applied mathematics, or in applied statistics, e.g. econometrics, chemometrics, psychometrics, biometrics. In the Netherlands, PhD positions are jobs, the gross monthly salary will range from € 2,042 in the first year to € 2,612 in the final year, according to the Dutch salary scales for PhD students.
