The School of Language, Arts and Media (SLAM) offers courses in Literature, Linguistics, Creative Writing, Academic English, Media, Journalism, French, Fijian and Hindi. It also offers units in Mandarin through the recently-established Confucius Institute.
SLAM is committed to reviewing its teaching strategies, academic offerings and research priorities in 2012, and seeks to appoint a dynamic person, with expertise in linguistics and regional languages, as part of this exciting directional change.
The appointee will teach a variety of undergraduate and postgraduate courses, attract and supervise MA and PhD candidates, conduct and publish high-quality research and perform administrative tasks, as directed by the Head of School via the Discipline Coordinator.
A completed PhD is a requirement for the position. The appointee will have significant teaching and administrative experience at the tertiary level and a solid research profile, including publications in peer-reviewed journals.
Preference will be given to candidates with research and teaching experience in the region and with specific expertise in phonetics, varieties of English, field methods, applied linguistics and/or historical linguistics.

The position is available for a term of three years and may be renewed by mutual agreement.
Salary Range: Lecturer F$59 813 to F$78 700 per annum
(Inclusive of 15% Gratuity)
In addition to the above benefits, the University contributes 10% of basic salary to an approved superannuation scheme, provides airfare and relocation costs where appropriate.
