PULSE 12 will run from Friday 25 May to Saturday 9 June at venues in and around Ipswich.
PULSE is a multi-disciplinary festival focusing on new and innovative approaches to the arts. The Festival provides a platform for the development and presentation of new work by regional, British and international artists of vision, nurturing artistic ambition and excellence across a range of art forms including theatre, dance, comedy, music, event led visual arts, participatory theatre, physical theatre and, in 2012, plans to include children’s theatre.
PULSE 2011 presented 101 performances and achieved an average capacity of 70%. Highlights included a world premieres from the internationally acclaimed and award winning company Inspector Sands (A Life in 22 Minutes) and from Bootworks (Babyboxes), an award winning show from Edinburgh 2010 (You’re Not Like The Other Girls Chrissy), a number of shows en route to Edinburgh 2011 including 7 Day Drunk by Bryony Kimmings one of the 12 ESCALATOR supported companies in the festival. The others were hoipolloi, John Osborne, Dancing Brick, Tim Clare, Dan Canham, Dot Howard and Holly Bodmer, Lakeside Theatre, Hannah Jane Walker, Neil Smith, Nabokov and Jumped Theatre.
PULSE is an ideal platform for companies to preview work before Edinburgh and other festivals and is a popular choice for companies in the early stages of development. Festival Director Emma Bettridge explains; “PULSE presents everything from rehearsed readings to full-scale productions. We provide a rare opportunity for companies to try out new work and for new talent to get exposure in a supportive environment. It is this mix and the fact the festival is curated which gives PULSE its unique standing in the industry. PULSE is a launch pad, an incubator for new talent and for established artists who want to flex their artistic muscles and take risks. I can’t wait to see who applies and look forward to putting together another demanding, challenging, eclectic, exciting and tempting programme.”
