2 PostDoctoral Positions
MPI for Biological Cybernetics, Tübingen, Germany
Topic: Biophysics and Computational Neuroscience of Brain Stimulation
Two postdoctoral positions are available in a research project aiming to understand the
biophysics of transcranial brain stimulation methods. The work will build upon our newly
developed software for realistic field calculations in brain stimulation that uses finite element
methods and individual head models derived from MR images (www.simnibs.de). The tasks
will be to extend the field simulations, to characterize the stimulation effects on the neural
level using realistic neural models, and to link the theoretical model predictions with
experimental data on brain stimulation.
Applicants should have a PhD in biomedical engineering, computer science, physics,
neuroscience or related areas. They should enjoy working on multidisciplinary topics in
collaboration with national and international partners, both from science and industry. Good
programming skills (favorably in Matlab/C/C++) are necessary. Prior experience and interest
in neuroscience is favorable. The working language will be English.
The Max Planck Institute for Biological Cybernetics provides an excellent multidisciplinary,
interactive and collaborative research environment combining expertise in neurophysiology
(Prof. Nikos Logothetis), psychophysics (Prof. Heinrich Bülthoff), machine learning (Prof.
Bernhard Schölkopf) and MRI methodology (Prof. Klaus Scheffler).
The positions are funded according to German Public service regulations. One position is
immediately available, with an initial funding for 2 1/2 years. Funding for the second position
is anticipated to be available for 3 years, starting January next year. The Max Planck Society
is an equal opportunity employer: Handicapped individuals are strongly encouraged to apply,
and so are women in areas in which they are underrepresented.
Applications including CV, a list of publications and statement of research interests and
experience should be submitted to:
