Cardiff University Brain Research Imaging Centre
Neuroimaging Post to study Memory
A post-doctoral research associate position is available to work on a Wellcome Trust funded project as part of a multi-disciplinary team. This will involve participating in research related to mapping the effects of damage to the mammillary body region and related areas. The aim is to uncover why the mammillary bodies are critical for episodic memory but due to their dense connections with the hippocampal formation, the research will also help us understand the relationship between diencephalic and medial temporal lobe memory processes.
The position will require the use of a number of neuroimaging techniques including diffusion, structural and functional MRI as well as magnetic resonance spectroscopy and magnetoencephalography. It is not expected that the candidate will have experience in all of these techniques. The research will be carried out in collaboration with Professor Derek Jones and Professor Krish Singh.
The position is based in Cardiff University Brain Research Imaging Centre (CUBRIC). CUBRIC is a state-of-the art neuroimaging centre comprising a GE 3T HDx system, a 275 gradiometer VSM MEG system, MRI-compatible EEG, 3 EEG laboratories, 2 TMS laboratories and a realistic mock MRI scanner.
You will have, or be in the final stages of, a PhD in a relevant area e.g. computational neuroscience, neuroimaging methods or applied statistics, you should have excellent computer programming skills, have a good understanding of the principles of structural MRI acquisition and analysis and experience of diffusion MRI analysis. You should have good written and oral communication skills and be able to work well as part of an interdisciplinary team.
The salary will be in the range of £29972 - £35788 per annum and the post is funded for 4 years with a starting date from the 1st January 2012.
