A giant, decked between the two islands,
the torso non-heart side torn open
and inside out; dark and weedy wet rocks;
brown stuff where his head’s been lopped –
that’ll be in a boat house near, or in a locker
somewhere further off --
a thin bright rainbow,
part of the frame of a steel chair, bending
across the channel where the monster fell out, dead.
The coat’d been patched with unmatching cloths.
It is ragged, threads hanging over clean trousers;
fairly clean linen trousers. A rat comes out.
