Hi List,
I work in the private sector, and yes, standing orders are still used in
accordance with the exemption of the medicines act, in the private
sector. However, a few years ago we followed the best practice of the
NHS PGD's and adapted it to an Employee Group Protocol, whilst having
the backstop of standing order. I consulted the PCT Community Pharmacist
on the idea and it resulted in a protocol with our OHP, and our Head of
Business unit Manager signatures, the EGP's are reviewed annually.
Regards
Cheryl

Hello Neil
you may benefit from reading the crown report 1999, I 'm not sure if
this has been superseded, but in the private sector standing orders are
still used and were 3yrs ago ( we still used them at this time and our
legal dept was happy for us to do this), as I did investigate the use
of both standing order and PGD's at this time, I d like to see further
discussion on this topic regards Pauline
