Thank you as always for your replies.
Wayne,
The specialist I have written to is a pain management physician so hopefully I will get some sound advice from him. The initial injury was at work so I need to ensure that I have advised the company on all aspects as I fear this will not end in a good result in the long term.
Many Thanks
Lesley

Lesley,
Yes manual tasks can aggravate pain.
Because there are often there is psychological overlay you are better off waiting for the reports. One thing that should be sought is the opinion of a good pain management physician as well as an orthopaedic one because getting a client back to activity is often a case of balancing goal setting with the help of medication. Let me know if you feel you need a Pain man as we have built a little network of them across the country through our contacts in Oxford and London.

Subject: [OCC-HEALTH] CRPS
Hi,
Does anyone have any experience of making recommendations for an employee who tells me that he has been diagnosed with complex regional pain syndrome? I am currently waiting for consultant and physio reports (both private through BUPA). The individual is currently not doing any form of manual work and I am finding it hard to make recommendations regarding timescales etc. Does/can manual work make symptoms worse? It is getting more difficult for the manager to find none manual tasks (FYI he was already back at work doing these prior to referral).
As always sharing of your experiences and thoughts will be greatly appreciated.
Regards
Lesley
