Personally (on face value) I think it may be too soon to recommend any form of "counselling" as I believe that the individual has to give it some time - all sorts of horrible feelings are "normal" following a traumatic event, and re-traumatising is a real possibility, as is the possibility of "medicalising" a normal (albeit unpleasant) psychological process
I suppose more may depend on why she was referred to you in the first place - eg if she has been absent with "depression" some form of intervention may be appropriate.

Dear All,
just wanted to pass something by you all and ask if anyone else has ever encountered the same problem.
I saw a client yesterday who has just got over the death of her father which was particularly traumatic. when she came to see me she told me that a very close family friend of 30 years was found murdered last week - I was stunned and for the first time in my life - speechless!
I discussed all the usual things that we would discuss, but the impact of murder seems so much more profound than a 'normal' death.
So if anyone has any advice for me to pass on i would really appreciate it.
Many thanks
Sue
