This post is available immediately and will be offered on a fixed-term
contract for a period of two years. Closing date 28/11/11.
Applications are invited to join a research team working on the theory and
spectroscopy of NO-containing complexes. The research, funded by the
EPSRC, comprises the experimental groups of Professor Brian Howard
(University of Oxford) and Professor Tim Wright (University of
Nottingham), and the theoretical chemistry groups of Dr Richard Wheatley
(University of Nottingham) and Dr Nick Besley (University of Nottingham).
Two PhD students and one research associate have already been appointed to
the team.
The successful candidate will join the group of Dr Wheatley, and will use
and develop modern quantum chemical methodology in calculating potential
energy surfaces for complexes including NO-H2, NO-N2 and NO-CH4, and in
predicting their microwave and electronic spectra. The grant includes
provision for specialist training in the development and use of
appropriate computer software.
Candidates should be motivated, dedicated and ambitious researchers with
excellent interpersonal and organisational skills. They should possess, or
expect to obtain, a PhD degree (or equivalent) in theoretical chemistry or
a related discipline. Experience of calculating intermolecular potentials,
spectra, and related theoretical computational techniques is highly
desirable.
Informal enquiries may be addressed to Dr R J Wheatley, tel: 0115 951 3454
