Subject: planned CS - research into women's experience
Dear All
I have been watching the recent thread re the revised NICE guideance on CS with interest. It is certainly a complex and emotive topic which I believe requires further research to help us with the tensions in our role as midwives.
I am keen to know how women experience planned CS and how they make sense of an integrate this experience and I am currently undertaking a PhD exploring women's experiences of planned Caesarean in their first pregnancy in England using narrative analysis. I am actively recruiting now but am currently struggling to recruit women to what I believe will be important research.
If you know of anyone who may be interested could you please direct them to my website where they can find out and/or decide to take part www.birthstories-csection.co.uk
I have included more details below
many thanks
Nicky

Women's stories of planned Caesarean birth in their first pregnancy.
I am a midwife undertaking a small qualitative study as part of a PhD. I am recruiting 12 women via 8 NHS Trusts across England and via a public website www.birthstories-csection.co.uk .
If you know of any women who might be interested in taking part could you please direct them to me or to my website (full contact details below).
The aim of this research is to discover information about women's experience of having a planned Caesarean birth in their first pregnancy by listening to stories of their experience. I am not setting out to prove a particular point but to understand how women feel about their Caesarean birth and what it means to them.
Women may take part in the study if:
o This is their first baby
o They have had their baby by a planned Caesarean
o They did not experience signs or symptoms of labour
o The mother and baby are fit and well The mother is aged 16 or older
o They had their baby in England
o They live in England now
o They are able to tell their story in English (this research relies on first-hand accounts of experience)
It is not important whether the decision to have a Caesarean was the mother's choice or recommended by her obstetrician. This research will not judge any choices made.
Please do not hesitate to contact me if you would like further information about this study.
