WITH APOLOGIES FOR ANY CROSS POSTING

I am pleased to announce that we now have funding for 30 delegates and 10 Medical Students (separate fund) for the 2nd RSM Primary Care Ethics Conference in association with the RCGP, supported by the IME and Wellcome Trust on February 1st 2012

We expect these places to vanish fast and will give priority to those submitting poster abstracts - any enquiries should go to [log in to unmask], We also have capacity for an additional self-funded 20 places if people miss this opportuity but would like to attend or showcase their work -if booking online the first thirty places (daily priorty given to those submitting abstracts) we process will not be charged for attendance at the day. The link is http://www.rsm.ac.uk/academ/gpc02.php

This one-day conference will have as its main theme the increasingly explicit issues which generalists face between the individual patient with a problem in the consulting room and wider perspectives. Questions of confidentiality, of anticipatory care and screening and of course prescribing, referral and commissioning are all aspects of this conflict between the one and the many.

Aims and objectives:
To explore as a main theme the ethical issues encountered in primary health care in the negotiation between individualism and wider perspectives
To foster a body of knowledge and a community of scholars concerned with the ethics of primary health care
To represent a network linking academia, education and practice, endorsed by major institutions
To provide support and mentoring for postgraduate students, clinicians and academics concerned with the field of primary care ethics
To run a workshop workshop led by senior researchers in medical ethics on how to set about doing research in the ethics of primary health care
To showcase new research in primary healthcare ethics
To provide opportunities to academics, educators and clinicians to present work by means of a peer-reviewed poster display linked to both the main theme and broader objectives of the day
A further networking opportunity will be provided in a conference dinner (booked separately -very limited capacity) with keynote speakers and conference organisers.

Who should attend:
All clinicians and non-clinical healthcare professionals with an interest in Primary Healthcare and/or Ethics, Law and Professionalism, GPs, Research Academics and Educators with a relevant interest in the above fields

Free places for medical students: We are pleased to announce that we are able to offer 10 free places for medical students funded by a grant received from the Institute of Medical Ethics. Free places will be offered on a first come first serve basis and on the condition that you submit a poster as detailed below and that this poster is selected for display at the conference. This provides an excellent opportunity to enhance your CV. Please contact [log in to unmask] for more information.

Limited free places: Thanks to funding from the Wellcome Trust we are also able to offer an additional 30 free places on the event. Priority will be given to those submitting posters and medical students would not be eligible for these free places. Please be aware that after the free places have been allocated the fees will increase to standard rates.

Funding is for a place at the conference only and does not include travel, accomodation or the conference dinner

With all best wishes
