If you want someone who could easily crash the whole Internet, then I'm your girl but even I know how to delete emails - if for no other reason than Hull Uni keep telling me I have filled up my allowance and must make space! Of course you should go on managing the list and just ignore the critics. I have always found it strange that other people are very quick to criticize but never volunteer themselves to do jobs; or perhaps I am being too critical myself.
Keep on in there and keep up the good work,

Dave. You have taken some comments too literal. Yes, you were very quick to apologise and some of your cross-posting did bring some relevant topics such as the census. I think you were getting more annoyed with your own cross-posting than we were. Have you added this list as a CC or BC in a posting to another list - that might be your problem. I feel you have served this group well and ask you to consider your stand. I also agree with Duncan opining about the owner has to ac.uk. But I believe jismail is academically owned.
Best wishes
Frank
Do we know whether Dave is receiving these emails in support, perhaps he has already left the group. Liz you could take over ownership, you would be good at it, and you could use your Bristol ac.uk address.

Dave
You see, there are a few of us who know how to delete messages and don't get steamed up about having to do it - and I can't belive that anybody so offended cannot do it directly from their inbox without reading the errant mail, particulally as you have always been incredibly prompt in apologising for the problem on the very few occasions when it has occurred (two of which, from memory, had a link to local history anyway)...
You have done a great job on this list and I would like to see you continue with it, as, I'm sure, would many others even if they are not able to express their views for whatever reasons...
If you do choose not to continue then I would seriously question Sarah's assertion that "An owner will need to have a .ac.uk <http://ac.uk/> type email address" - there is a heck of a lot of good work done in the ".org" world and history is not the sole preserve of the ".ac-ademics"...
