Employer Engagement in a Digital Age
Academic Practice and Technology Conference
University of Greenwich 4th July 2012

The interaction between employers and higher education is a complex and contested space. The discourses that have emerged from the experiences of academics and the academy itself talk about the emancipatory and empowering benefits of employer engagement on the student experience and the recognition of knowledge constructed outside of the university. The continued impact of technology both in terms of supporting and enhancing learning and its role in changing the nature and practice of work poses major challenges for the design and delivery of higher education. In Europe, the policy agenda argues for greater collaboration between universities and employers.

The Academic Practice and Technology (APT) conference is the tenth annual e-learning conference at the University of Greenwich. It brings together practitioners, researchers, students and managers who have engaged employers and industry through the design, development or delivery of technology based or led higher education, work based learning, leaner employability or e-work programmes

The Academic Practice and Technology (APT) conference aims to:

· Share practices, tools and approaches that have enhanced the use of technology to support employer engagement

· Explore the changing roles of employers and higher education within a international digital workplace

· Present research into the impact of technology-led learning on employer engagement, curriculum design, and work based learning

· Create a platform for students' perspectives on the benefits of graduate skills and attributes for enhancing international and local employability

· Set an agenda for the on-going debate about the relationship between universities, colleges, new e-learners and globalised e-employers

Contributions to the conference programme are sought from students, practitioners and researchers in all education and training sectors that contribute to the discourses, provide case study examples of, or present project/research reports aligned with at least one of the conference aims.

The conference will address a number of key themes with both its keynote presentations and the parallel sessions including;

Employer engagement in a digital age

Employability in a globalised mobile workforce
