Fixed Term Information and Data Analyst (reference 6006) College of
Medicine, Swansea
Swansea University has a strong reputation in Health Informatics. A long
track record of information system research and development, information
standards, and public health analyses has been consolidated within the
Institute of Life Science (ILS): a strategic development bringing
outstanding High Performance Computing (HPC) via the Blue C
supercomputer. Health Informatics at Swansea has benefitted
significantly from the ILS development, initially allowing the creation
of the Health Informatics Research Unit (HIRU), a Wales Office of
Research and Development (WORD) funded research centre, focussed on
making use of routinely collected data from public services for the
purpose of conducting and supporting high quality research. Based on the
Blue C computational infrastructure, and utilising cutting edge
parallel-processing technologies for data warehousing, HIRU has
developed the SAIL databank - a large scale warehouse of person-centred,
linked, anonymised data. The work of HIRU focuses on the use of data to
improve the understanding of health and healthcare.
This new post is part of a new large project that is funded by the
prestigious Wellcome Trust and is investigating patient outcomes
following emergency hospital admissions across Wales and England using
record linked inpatient, mortality and GP data.
