-----
Research Associate: Genetics of Human Physical Appearance, - Ref:1216664
UCL Department / Division
Research Department of Genetics, Evolution & Environment

Applications are invited for a Postdoctoral Research Associate to work on a 3-year project funded by BBSRC aimed at analysing the genetic basis of human physical appearance, under the supervision of Andrés Ruiz-Linares, Professor of Human Genetics, and David Balding, Professor of Statistical Genetics. The post-holder will develop and apply methods to analyse genomic data in order to identify variants influencing traits such as facial features and pigmentation in a large study sample of individuals with mixed ancestry being recruited in Latin America (http://www.ucl.ac.uk/silva/candela). It will involve data analysis using established tools as well as participation in method development and software implementation tailored to the study of populations with mixed ancestry. The post will be based in the Department of Genetics, Evolution and Environment and involve close interaction with researchers from the UCL Genetics Institute as well as collaborators outside UCL.

The successful applicant should have a PhD in statistics, computer science, quantitative genetics or related field, be an effective programmer in a high-level language such as C or Java (experience with R would be an advantage). S/he should be able to work independently, and solve problems using determination and creativity. The successful candidate will also have experience in contributing to peer-reviewed publications and be a good communicator with collaborators and in scientific seminars and publications.

To apply, go to http://www.ucl.ac.uk/hr/jobs/ and search using the above reference number.

Informal enquiries may be made to Andrés Ruiz-Linares, Professor of Human Genetics, on [log in to unmask]<mailto:[log in to unmask]>
