Dear all,
The last two weeks I'm struggling with the following problems:
Problem 1: I have a 3 month transition matrix TP3. I want to have the 1 month transition matrix TP1, so that TP3 = TP1*TP1*TP1. How can I do that? Which program do I need?
Problem 2: I have a 2 year transition matrix TP2 from a population P2 and a 1 year transition matrix TP1 from a comparable population P1. Usually, I would say, the transitions from year 1 to year 2 can be obtained by multiplication of TP2 and the inverse of TP1. However, in that way, I obtain negative values as result. As probabilities are always between 0 and 1, this makes no sense. I know that P1 is not the same as P2, what may explain the negative values, but I certainly want to estimate the transition matrix from year 1 to year 2 based on these matrices. Any idea?
Best regards,
Mario
