A strip similar to what you speak of can sometimes be found in police
holding cells or interview rooms.....
and, although I have never seen it, I believe a strip is used in some
European countries in preference to a red cord.....
A strip around the room would certainly resolve the age old issue of alarm
cord placement.....
If anyone is aware of an strip alarm installation in the UK, particularly if
it is in a hotel or other public area, I would really be grateful for the
details....
With regard to a standard provision, it is safest to follow adm
guidance.....
But, if it is a bespoke facility the requirements of the individual is the
guideline for placement.....

I am with you that a strip would be better as it would allow activation if
people fell away from the pan. It would also need an activatation mechanisim
for people to use when on the WC and would need to be carefull that the
height / detail of it does not allow a bump from a chair or footrest to set
it off.

You need to be a little bit careful here. Ireland generally follow ADM,
however there may be slight differences; see attached link.

I realise Flick suggested what I would consider the alternative alarm cord
pull, however, I generally recommend the one mentioned by others. The one to
the rear of the side transfer space often is tied up, partly because
electrical installers place it in the centre of the nearest ceiling tile and
therefore it is hanging out from the wall and gets in the way, at least with
one to the side you can tuck it behind the grab rail.
I would like to see a strip, similar to the bells on buses that could be
pressed. This could be installed around the whole area just above the
skirting. What do others think?

An incorrectly positioned alarm pull cord eg in the transfer zone can quite
easily be set off by accident whilst transferring or deploying the drop down
grab rail so it's also important to correctly position the alarm reset
button so that the alarm can be cancelled by the user if set off by
accident. Approved Document M gives the correct location for the reset
switch which electricians often get wrong thinking that it is the managers
of the building who have to use the reset button. I have known them to be
positioned outside the cubicle above the door.

there a standard on where to place the cord, i.e. does it have to be placed
within reach of the actual toilet seat area at wheelchair height or should
it be placed on a left or right hand side of the toilet seat area?
Is there a height - i.e. should it be at wheelchair height from the toilet
seat area, fromthe ceiling??
