Dear all
This is an update about the discussion held at the Apply meeting in London
yesterday for those who are interested.
Thank you to those of you who came along, as everyone's input was extremely
valuable. At the meeting we discussed upcoming conferences and ideas for
seminars to support students thinking about careers in applied/engaged
anthropology.
Future conferences that we discussed are:
-> EASA 2012. In Nanterre, Paris 10-13 July, the deadline for paper
submissions is Monday 28 November 2011 (THIS
MONDAY!).<http://www.easaonline.org/conferences.htm>
-> ASA 2012. In New Delhi 3-6 April 2012, the deadline for paper
submissions is 7 Dec 2011. <http://www.theasa.org/conferences.shtml>
-> RAI Anthropology in the World. In London 8-10 June 2012, the deadline
for paper submissions is 16 Jan 2012. A list of panels is now available to
view on the RAI website.
http://www.therai.org.uk/about-the-rai/rai-announcements/anthropology-in-the-world-conference/
-> IUAES: World Congress of the International Union of Anthropological and
Ethnological Sciences, Manchester, 5-10 August 2013. The call for panels
and papers is still open, but please take note that the deadline is
relatively soon: 31 Jan 2012. http://www.iuaes2013.org/Manchester 2013.
After discussing events, Kathryn Tomlinson led discussion about a proposed
activity to support students. She is keen to put together a seminar series
in applied anthropology. Please contact Kathryn if you're interesting in
discussing this.
We also discussed the possibility of setting up Skype, or an alternative,
for future meetings for those who cannot come to London. We do appreciate
that it's hard for many people to get to London and will try to arrange
this for the next meeting. The date for the next meeting will be announced
when we have one. As ever, if you would like to arrange Apply gatherings
outside London we'd be very pleased to arrange to publicise these. Please
just let me know if you'd like to do so.
With regards
Rachael (co-convener of Apply)
