The Centre for Indian Studies in Africa (CISA) and the Mellon Chair in Indian Studies at the University of the Witwatersrand is looking for one postdoctoral fellow, two PhD and two MA fellowships around the themes of the Indian Ocean and Histories of the Global South. The Centre is interested in promoting interdisciplinary and comparative transnational work looking at the connected histories of colonialism, capital, labour, religion, as well as post-colonial ideologies and formations in Africa, Asia and South East Asia. Selected candidates will work closely with the Director of the Centre and the Chair in Indian Studies on their own research and the intellectual agenda of the Centre in terms of workshops and conferences
* The postdoctoral fellowship (for individuals who have obtained the PhD in the last 5 years) is tenable for one year and will be to the value of 144,000 Rand, in addition to airfare and medical insurance. Wits does not normally recruit its own doctoral graduates on a post-doctoral fellowship
* The two PhD fellowships will be tenable for three years and will be of the value of 120,000 Rand (candidates should have a Master's degree in an appropriate discipline and preferably some experience of research or a research degree)
* The two MA fellowships will be tenable for one year and will be of the value of 100,000 Rand (candidates should have an honours degree or equivalent in an appropriate discipline). The program entails an MA by dissertation plus one compulsory module on the Indian Ocean
