TORG are pleased to announce this week's Wednesday lunchtime seminar:
"Local Air Quality Management in York"
Elizabeth Bates
Director, Urban Foresight
About the seminar:
The seminar will provide an introduction to the local air quality management duties undertaken by local authorities. It will examine data collection and analysis, the use of modelling tools and explain the process of declaring an AQMA. An overview of the action planning measures undertaken in York to date will be given, along with an insight into the new low emission strategy currently being developed. Attendance at this seminar should provide a good understanding of the role local authorities play in protecting local air quality and an appreciation of challenges local air quality improvement presents.
About the presenter:
Liz Bates is a Principal Environmental Protection Officer at City of York Council responsible for local air quality management. With over ten years experience in this field she has overseen the development of an extensive air pollution monitoring network, declared and consulted on two Air Quality Managements Areas (AQMAs) and prepared two Air Quality Action Plans (AQAPs). She works closely with colleagues in transport, planning and sustainable development and is currently developing an overarching low emission strategy (LES) for the council. The LES will aim to promote the uptake of alternative vehicle technology in the city with a particular emphasis on reducing emissions from buses, HGVs and the council fleet. Liz works closely with the Low Emission Strategies Partnership and was 'low emission champion' for the Leeds City Region during 2010/11.
Seminar Location:
Please join us on Wednesday 23/11/2011 between 13:00-15:00 in Room 2.32, Cassie Building, Claremont Road, Newcastle University, Newcastle upon Tyne, NE1 7RU.
We look forward to seeing you.
