Need a practical guide to conserving your collections? Here's the answer...
On 2 December Jane Thompson-Webb, Head of Collection Services at Birmingham
Museum and Art Gallery, returns to Creating Capacity with the brilliant
Introduction to basic collections care: a practical guide to conservation at
Freeword Centre in Farringdon. This is essential training for all those
wishing to learn about object assessment and basic conservation techniques.
The course provides an introduction to object assessment and basic
conservation techniques. It has been tailored specifically for volunteers
and staff who deal with objects, but have little or no conservation skills
or experience.
By looking at different object types including ceramic, glass, metals and
textiles participants will:#
o Be able to assess an object's condition
o Develop their understanding of conservation
o Learn about safe handling and cleaning of objects
o Gain a basic knowledge of best practice in object storage
o Know when and how to brief an expert conservator
You can even bring an object from the collection to the session to work and
get advice on.
The course costs £145 plus VAT this includes a course handbook, lunch and
refreshments, and 3 months post course support from your trainer - available
as and when you need it.
To see what else is coming up go to our calendar (www.creatingcapacity.org)
where you can access information on all the other learning opportunities
available through Creating Capacity. If you need to take time out to
consider your next steps professionally why not book a one-to-one learning
review with the Creating Capacity team for just £56 plus VAT. You'll leave
the session knowing you have a clear map for your learning journey and
you'll feel positive about the practical steps you can take to develop
professionally without over-stretching budgets.
I look forward to hearing from you!
Kind regards,
Lucy Auger
