Subject: Appointment of External Examiner
The School of Media and Communication in the Faculty of Art and Design and Humanities at De Montfort University, Leicester is seeking to appoint an External Examiner for one of the Postgraduate MA by Independent Study Programmes in Photographic Practice.
Centred on an approved Learning Contract, this practice-led programme, seeks to build on and develop the capacity for self-directed, autonomous study.
The current position is for one student, but this could be added to during the tenure of the contract, which is normally four years.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
. To make recommendations to the Board (Assessment Mode) on the final assessment of students
. To examine students in accordance with the arrangements and criteria specified in each learning contract, which will include a
final assessment interview, and make recommendations to the Board (Assessment Mode) on the final award
. Final recommendations should be supported by an evaluation of student attainment in each of the assessed items, which as specified
in the learning contract, contribute to the overall final assessment, indicating weightings as appropriate
Relevant Experience
. Competence and experience in the field covered by the programme
. Academic qualifications/professional qualifications to at least the level of the qualification being externally examined
. Significant academic and teaching experience at postgraduate level sufficient standing, credibility and breadth of experience within
the discipline to be able to command the respect of colleagues
. Familiarity with the standard to be expected of students in the programme to be examined
. Awareness of modern developments in the design and delivery of the flexible curriculum
. Fluency in English
Assessment Dates
The appointed External Examiner will attend the University for assessments on the following dates, but these may be extended over the duration of the tenure:
February 2012
June 2012
February 2013
June 2013
September 2013
