Part-time Graduate Research Assistant

Grade 6: £25,854 - £30,870 p.a. (pro rata)
Applications are invited from motivated graduates for the post of Research Assistant in the Department of Experimental Psychology to work on a research programme entitled “Infant vocabulary measures as predictors of reading skills in later childhood”, funded by the Nuffield Foundation. It is hoped that the appointee will be able to take up the post by 1 April 2011 or as soon as possible thereafter. The post is 80% full-time and is for 18 months.
The appointee will be a graduate in Psychology or a related discipline, having achieved a First Class or Upper Second degree. An interest in psycholinguistics and in reading and language development is essential. The appointee will be responsible for data collection which will involve liaising with teachers and parents, and assessing the language and literacy skills of a large group of children aged between 4 and 10 years of age. The testing schedule is heavy, and will require regular travel to schools in Oxfordshire. Experience of testing children and a familiarity with psychometrics are highly desirable for this post.
