Hi there psychology department
Please help I'm currently writing up my dissertation but confused with
study design as terms overlap from checking on the Internet.
My study is assessing coping strategies in relation to pain related
outcomes (ie pain level, disability and psychological functioning eg
depression) in people with chronic pain. I am looking at differences
amongst chronic back pain and alternative other pain conditions so I
have 2 pain groups.
I know this is definately a cross sectional survey from a heterogenous
sample collecting data at 1 time point only. Can I still refer to my
partcipants as cohorts? From what iv seen cohort is essentially the
same as prospective studies in that a sample is followed for a short
time point. Cohorts do seem to describe my p's as they are groups who
share characteristics being a subpopulation of a disease who are asked
about their past and recent pain experiences but I am not following
them over time intervals.
Please help anyone as I am struggling to work it out. Can my design be
cross sectional and a cohort study??
If you need more info about my participants to make a decision then do
ask.
Please reply asap
Thanks for Reading!
