Dear Colleagues
I would like to remind you about the second international New Media Writing Competition event, and invite you to enter your own work and/or tell your students about the event.
The event is a celebration of creative writing which uses new-media to its best advantage. It is open to anyone, and we have a student award as well as an overall winner. We are not looking necessarily for commercial projects, although of course we recognise that new media 'books' are now taking off commercially.
Last year this event happened as part of the Poole Literary Festival (http://www.poolelitfest.com/new-media-prize.php), and we attracted some terrific entries from all around the world. The main winner was Christine Wilks' Underbelly (http://www.crissxross.net/). This year I am running the competition as a free standing event as the PLF takes a year off. The award ceremony will be held at Bournemouth University on November 23rd.
This event is of course non-profit, and my aim is to encourage writers to develop storytelling in new media, and to show the wider world what wonderful work is being done. The best student will win a laptop, donated by Adido digital marketing, and the best overall piece will win an iPad 2 donated by Mutant Vinyl multimedia.
Prize winners will have their work exhibited at BU's Media School during the week of the event, and it will be featured on all our webspaces. The Literary Platform (http://www.theliteraryplatform.com/about/) is supporting the event and will also give prominent feature space to the shortlisters and eventual winners.
Deadline for entries is October 31st. Please go to our website for competition details: http://www.newmediawritingprize.co.uk/
Please enter work if you can, and if not I'd be eternally grateful if you would publicise the competition to your colleagues and students. Thanks.
