Hello Everybody,

I attended a workshop at the recent AGCAS (Association of Graduate Careers Advisory Services) conference, run by Julia Yates from UEL (not sure if she's on this list? She's an ex careers adviser and now psychology academic who teaches on the Dip CG) It was a really positive and productive session, I'm glad to report.

One of Julia's points was that much of the current stuff is in non-UK publications. Furthermore the issue of "currency" is not helped by how long the editorial process takes for some journals. I've added a list of her recommended reads at the bottom of my message.

As you will see from the titles, they unfortunately aren't Employability specific by any means. Nevertheless, I thought it was worth sharing them with the group as they could come in handy for references and/or inspiration.

Times Higher Ed, HECSU or indeed AGCAS's own members' magazine, Phoenix might be interested in the findings from this kind of project. Phoenix has indeed run similar pieces before - more informal than journal papers, as you would expect.

I would also think the Guardian's HE group - which seems really good at putting everything out across various social media as well as on the website - could be a good call. I do have a couple of contact there, but I think they're open on the web page once you get to the relevant bit. Connecting with bloggers and tweeters on the topic could also pay dividends. My blog got 268 hits compared to the usual 11 on the day my post was re-tweeted by David Winter and the Guardian. (shameless plug- the link's in my signature...)

Best wishes

Alexandra

Hello Anne and everyone

Apologies for not replying sooner - here is a summary of responses from a question about where to look for research so I have edited for the journals:-)

Penny Burden suggested: The Journal of Teaching and Learning for Graduate Employability http://jtlge.curtin.edu.au/index.php/jtlge/login

Rose Watson suggested: Research in Post Compulsory Education - in which she has an excellent article this issue about extra-curricular employability awards! :-) http://www.tandf.co.uk/journals/titles/13596748.asp

Jeff Waldock reminded me of the Employability Document Repository at http://aces.shu.ac.uk/employability
which he (diligently) keeps up to date

Julie Haddock suggested the Journal of Education and Training & the Journal of Vocational Education and Training

Aphrodite Papadatou suggested HECSU's Graduate Market trends: http://www.hecsu.ac.uk/research_reports_graduate_market_trends.htm

If people know of more please let us all know

Best wishes
Ruth

Dear All,

Apart from disseminating to the wonderful 300 @ [log in to unmask] could you let me know how one of our academics from School of History might disseminate the findings of an employability project across the sector? Could you point us towards any journals, conferences, web groups etc?

Many thanks and best wishes,
Anne
