Stuart, Tom and others...

In the ISO context, we have worked (actually with the DCMI
Accessibility community as well) to develop a new way of dealing with
accessibility. It is now known as 'inclusion' due to the developments
of the UN Convention on the Rights of People with Disabilities, and
recent thinking that says everyone seems to be wanting their own way
of accessing the content of resources so we should be able to
accommodate personal needs and preferences through the use of
metadata, rather than rely on the W3C guidelines being followed
(knowing these are almost always ignored).

So, we worked up what we called 'AccessForAll' metadata and it has
become an ISO standard (ISO/IEC N24751*). Also, we worked to develop
ISO/IEC N24752 that deals with personal needs and preferences for
devices - an adaptable universal remote console.

Now all this has grown into a global effort to use metadata this way.
It is known as the Global Public Inclusive Infrastructure (http://gpii.org
) having started with the US Fed Govt and then being funded by the EU.
The idea is to use metadata to find and assemble the bits people want
and to take advantage of services in the cloud to do conversions to
Braille etc rather than expecting people to all have their own systems.

As I have explained previously, the ISO 24751 was not done with the DC
model by ISO, (although I made a version that was DC-style). Now we
are revising 24751 and it should end up, like 24752, DC-style.

So my question is - is there anyone who is interested enough to want
to work with us. And anyway, can we could the work being done as an
Accessibility Task Group activity please.

Liddy

* It's easy to remember the number because it is 24 hours, 7 days but
only 51 weeks. The other accessibility standard is ISO/IEC 24752 (even
more inclusive!).
