Subject: Re: Japanese Knotweed
Hello everyone. According to some of the coverage I have seen in the newspapers, Japanese Knotweed is "deadly". How? Does it creep up on unsuspecting babies and strangle them in their cots, like a triffid? If so I will need to sleep with a pair of secateurs under the bed. Is JK the only plant which can creep into houses? Is it the only plant which has roots which can damage foundations? Is it the only plant which spreads at the expense of other species (cf. Rhododendron, Rosebay Willowherb, sycamore etc.) In other words, why has JK acquired the status of a monster?
Is there any source of reasonably impartial and objective information? All advice gratefully received.
