El Instituto de Estudios del Caribe de la Universidad de Puerto Rico-Río
Piedras (UPR-RP) invita a la comunidad universitaria y al público en general
a participar de la mesa redonda "Mujeres y género en Latinoamérica y el
Caribe: Un homenaje a Helen I. Safa". En este, participarán las doctoras
Helen I. Safa, Profesora Emérita del Center for Latin American Studies,
University of Florida; A. Lynn Bolles, Department of Women´s Studies,
University of Maryland, Alice Colón, Centro de Investigaciones Sociales,
UPR-RP, y los doctores Jorge Duany, Decano Interino, Facultad de Ciencias
Sociales, UPR-RP, y Kevin Yelvington, Department of Anthropology, University
of South Florida. El Dr. Jorge Giovannetti, Director Interino, Departamento
de Sociología y Antropología, UPR-RP, será el moderador. La actividad tendrá
lugar el jueves, 13 de octubre, de 1:00 a 3:30 p.m., en el Anfiteatro
Manuel Maldonado Denis (CRA 108) del Edificio Carmen Rivera de Alvarado
(CRA) de la Facultad de Ciencias Sociales, UPR-RP.

Helen I. Safa". Helen I. Safa, Professor Emeritus, Center for Latin
American Studies, University of Florida, Dr. A. Lynn Bolles, Department of
Women´s Studies, University of Maryland, Dr. Alice Colón, Centro de
Investigaciones Sociales, UPR-RP, Dr. Jorge Duany, Acting Dean, College of
Social Sciences, UPR-RP, and Dr. Kevin Yelvington, Department of
Anthropology, University of South Florida will participate in the

Esta mesa redonda celebra la publicación de un número especial de
CARIBBEAN STUDIES, dedicado a Helen I. Safa, co-editado por A. Lynn Bolles
y Kevin Yelvington. Helen I. Safa es Profesora Emérita de Estudios
Latinoamericanos en la Universidad de Florida, en Gainesville, y una
distinguida antropóloga que ha contribuido, por décadas, al estudio de la
desigualdad social y de género en Puerto Rico, el Caribe y América Latina.
Luego de presentar la revista y un vídeo titulado “Helen’s Life
Journey”,habrán intervenciones de algunos de los autores del número
especia, una respuesta de la profesora Safa y una discusión abierta con
los participantes.
