Professor in Social Anthropology Ref: SS0445
School of Anthropology and Conservation
Professorial scale from: £58,420 per annum
The University of Kent is one of the UK’s most dynamic universities with a strong European and international presence. Our excellent RAE results reflect our world-leading research and, while we are currently increasing our postgraduate activities, our undergraduates continue to rate us one of the top universities in the country according to the National Student Survey.
Social Anthropology at Kent was established in 1965 and, following a merger with the Durrell Institute of Conservation and Ecology (DICE) in 1997, became an independent department within the Faculty of Social Sciences. In August 2009 Social Anthropology was incorporated into the renamed School of Anthropology and Conservation which, uniquely in a UK context, combines social anthropology with biological anthropology and a range of additional disciplines engaged in the study of biodiversity conservation and the environment.
The School wishes to further strengthen its considerable reputation in the field of social sciences by filling the post of Professor in Social Anthropology. The successful candidate will have a strong publication record with specialist knowledge in a contemporary field of Social or Cultural Anthropology. S/he will also demonstrate commitment to working with colleagues across disciplines to integrate anthropological research into other areas of the School’s work with a view to increasing its wider research reputation and impact.
This is an exciting opportunity for a committed and innovative individual to make a major contribution to the strategic development of School research and in a leading University with an ambitious vision of its future.
Closing date: 25 November 2011
Interviews are expected to be held on 19 January 2012
