Special Issue of the Journal of Simulation
Input & Output Analysis for Simulation
Guest Editors:
Kathryn Hoad, University of Warwick
Christine Currie, University of Southampton
Russell Cheng, University of Southampton
The Journal of Simulation (JOS),an official journal of The Operational Research Society, aims to publish methodological and technological advances in the application of simulation modelling-related theory and practice. JOS publishes material in a wide range of domains, including manufacturing, service, defence and healthcare, as it seeks to interest and provoke discussion within the wider simulation community.
JOS will publish a special issue on input and output modelling as applied to simulation. Most input modelling deals with the problem of adequately representing the variability in the input variables to a simulation model. Output analysis is the area of research that deals with producing reliable and valid estimates of model performance. For example, there has been much research into controlling the undesirable effects of initial transients in steady-state output, as well as the estimation of point and confidence interval estimates of the steady-state mean. The analysis of simulation output and experimentation are also active research areas encompassing a wide range of techniques designed to search the solution space and/or find an optimal solution or set of ‘best’ solutions for the system being modelled.
The special issue editorsinvite contributions in both theoretical development and innovative applications to practical problems in the areas of simulation input and output modelling. The review process will be the same as that used by the journal. Topics suitable for this special issue include, but are not limited to, the following:
· Simulation Input Modelling
o Parameter uncertainty
o Flexible input models
o Bayesian input-output analysis
o Bootstrapping methods
· Output Analysis
o Initial transient problem
o Reliable point and confidence-interval estimation of the steady-state mean
o Real-time applications
o Parallel methods
· Simulation Experimentation
o Design of experiments
o Meta-modelling
o Ranking and Selection methods
o Simulation Optimization
All manuscripts should be submitted via http://www.palgrave-journals.com/jos/index.html. More information about the journal and paper submission guidelines is available at the same link. You must select Input-Output Analysis as the Article Type to make sure that your paper will be considered for the special issue.
The submission deadline is 1st March, 2012. The plan is to publish the special issue in 2013. Inquiries on the special issue can be directed to the guest editors:
