Diabetes treatment and cancer - register-based pharmacoepidemiology.
A position as biostatistician (research assistant) is available for 2
years at the Department of Biostatistics, Institute of Public Health,
University of Copenhagen.
Project
EFSD (European Foundation for the Study of Diabetes) has funded the
project under its "Diabetes and Cancer" program. The project is a
register follow-up of Danish Diabetes patients with respect to
occurrence of cancer and survival after cancer diagnosis. The primary
focus will be to quantify the effects of various drug regimens.
Technically, the project will be using large databases at Statistics
Denmark. There will also be a substantial methodological component in
developing proper quantification models for drug effects. Moreover,
the project has opportunities for method development for follow-up
studies in the realm of pharmacoepidemiology. The project is a part
of the international Diabetes and Cancer Research Consortium, an
informal association of research groups around the world, comprising
both experts in diabetes and in cancer.
Qualifications
You must have a degree in statistics, biostatistics or similar and
preferably be familiar with the major statistical packages.
Familiarity with large-scale data processing as well as statistical
analysis of follow-up data (survival, demographic data) is desired,
albeit not absolutely necessary. It is necessary to have or acquire
detailed skills in both SAS and R to complete the project. As a
meticulous level of documentation of analyses are needed, the use of
LaTeX for reporting is also required.
Job
The project is in collaboration with Steno Diabetes Center and the
Danish Cancer Society. The project leaders are Bendix Carstensen,
Department of Biostatistics & Steno Diabetes Center; Daniel Witte,
Steno Diabetes Center and Søren Friis, Danish Cancer Society. The
primary biostatistical supervision will be by Bendix Carstensen with
professor Niels Keiding, Dept. of Biostatistics as co-supervisor on
statistical aspects of survival analysis and demography. You will be
expected to spend time both at Department of Biostatistics and Steno
Diabetes Center. The job will provide an opportunity for academic
development in biostatistics and in epidemiology. You will be expected
to be primary responsible for analysis and reporting of results. The
working environment will be friendly and academic, and you will be
part of the epidemiological research group at Steno Diabetes Center.
Some travel activity (also outside Europe) should be expected.
Employment conditions
Employment will be in accordance with the collective agreement between
the Danish Government and AC (the Danish Confederation of Professional
Associations). The post is covered by the Protocol on Job
Structure. The salary depends on seniority (26,871 - 32,066 DKK/month,
