The School of Sociology and Social Policy invites applications for the above post. We are looking for a highly motivated, enthusiastic individual to provide academic leadership and contribute to the School’s collegial and interdisciplinary teaching and research culture. The School was ranked 14th out of 68 in the UK in RAE 2008 and is looking to build on this success.
The successful candidate will provide research and academic leadership and management for the Science and Technology Studies subject team. Candidates should have substantial administrative experience, have excellent organisational and inter-personal skills and be able to engage across disciplines (including science and engineering subjects), as well as with policy makers and publics.
They will strengthen the School’s research profile and teaching in the area of Science and Technology Studies and contribute to one or more of the following areas: environment and sustainability; science and public engagement; science, culture and the media; regulation and governance in science and society; communicative interactions between science and publics; biomedicine, health and illness. They will undertake teaching at both undergraduate and postgraduate level including the supervision of doctoral students within the School of Sociology and Social Policy.
The successful candidate will be expected to make a significant contribution to maintaining and developing the School’s culture of interdisciplinary research and scholarship which influences theory, policy and practice. Candidates should have an outstanding national and international research profile including securing significant external research funding and evidence of a strong publication record in Science and Technology Studies or related fields. They would be working within the Institute for Science and Society and contribute to the University’s Science and Technology Studies Research Priority Group.
This full-time, permanent post is available from 1 March 2012.
