Dear list members,
We are very pleased to announce that the UK Archives Discovery network (UKAD) have been working on a new improved website.
The Website, at http://www.ukad.org, includes a whole range of new information.
We have
- information about us, our vision and objectives and some of our activities
- information on how to get involved
- resources that include two case studies, an indexing tutorial and a feedback form for you to tell us where you think our priorities should be (training, case studies, tutorials).
The Indexing Tutorial has been a collaborative venture, edited by Jane Stevenson, with contributions from Sam Velumyl and Kate Raine as well as a number of other people who are part of the UKAD community, which has helped to make it as broadly applicable as possible. We encourage you to check it out, and consider recommending it to any archivists and others who would like to learn a bit more about how to index. It includes sections on name, place and subject indexing, with a number of short exercises. It has been created in response to the survey we carried out a few years ago, which indicated that people would like more help with indexing. We hope that this meets the need to some extent.
The case studies are on the Genesis portal for women's studies and the new Hull History Centre. They are intended to provide you with helpful information and advice about such projects - processes, outcomes and lessons learnt. We'd love to hear from anyone who would like to contribute a case study to the site.
We are planning on a UKAD Forum for 2012, following our very successful venture earlier this year, so watch out for news of that.
Please do join our email list, [log in to unmask], as this is a great means to be part of the UKAD network.
With all best wishes,
UKAD
