A meeting will be held on the 8th of November in Piccadilly, London, to
hear presentations from possible suppliers for a national collaborative
storage service. A few places remain for those who have yet to express
an interest in this project and who wish to attend to hear more.
The aim of a collaborative storage service is for institutions with
insufficient storage space, or who wish to reduce the costs of existing
remote storage, to be able to have 5454 quality storage of even small
quantities of material at the kind of low unit price usually only
afforded to those with very large quantities in a long term contract.
So far 20 organisations (archives, libraries and museum/art collections)
from around the UK have expressed an interest in such a collaborative
store. Four storage companies have expressed an interest in setting up
such a service and on the 8th of November we will hear from these first
suppliers. We will then discuss the selection criteria that are most
important to all the users, with a view to pursuing the project further.
If you missed previous announcements about this collective venture, or
have simply not had time to express an interest and you would like to
come to the meeting, please let me know.
