The Archives & Records Association PSQG sub-committee on Volunteering is running a series of FREE roadshows to celebrate European Year of Volunteering
These roadshows are aimed at
*Raising awareness of some of the opportunities and challenges of working with volunteers in an archive setting
*Providing an opportunity to share experiences
We also hope that these roadshows will help us to identify future training needs in this area.
Participants:
The roadshows are targeted at anyone working with volunteers within the archive sector. This means both those who manage or co-ordinate volunteer work and those who work alongside volunteers (e.g. para-professionals, archive assistants).
Please note that these events are not designed to provide training for volunteers themselves.
First Roadshow: Event Details
The first roadshow will take place on Friday 18th November 2011 at London Metropolitan Archives from 10.30 to 3.30 (NB: delegates will be expected to bring their own lunch).
In the morning session delegates will have the opportunity to hear about the London Metropolitan Archives and Surrey History Centre’s experiences of working with volunteers, and to hear one volunteer’s story of their contribution to archives work. In the afternoon there will be a chance to discuss both opportunities and challenges of working with volunteers.
This session is organised with support from Archives for London, London Metropolitan Archives and The National Archives.
