Amanda
I have no advice to offer Amanda or other colleagues on this except it reminds me that Art Garfunkel keeps a list of all the books he has ever read on his website (www.artgarfunkel.com, follow link to 'Library'). In chronological order. Perhaps if your Fellow was around now, he might be doing the same?
Cheers

Subject: One Man's Reading
Dear All,
In 1971, an individual with no connection to the College except as a friend to one of our Fellows, offered our Librarian his collection of notebooks in which he had kept a record of "most of the non-fiction books I have read during the last 30 or 35 years and ... a note of any passages which seemed to be worth recording". The Librarian elected to accept these on the grounds that "such a record will be of interest as the account of one man's reading over such a period of time ... and I have no doubt that the passages extracted will themselves be of great interest".
Unfortunately, a chronic shortage of space in our archive now requires that I am rather more ruthless in what I can keep so these are edging their way closer to the door. I thought, however, that I would just see if there are any archives out there that are of a literary nature or interested in the history of reading and who might see these books as having some research value. If so, then you are most welcome to them (I do have the man's details) so do let me know.
