natural ways to identify risky drinkers among primary care patients, but can these work as well as

MORE CLUES TO HOW BEST TO DO MOTIVATIONAL INTERVIEWING
This London study of cannabis-using students found they were most likely to stop using after brief
motivational interventions which embodied the spirit of the approach and featured responses from the
counsellor reflecting back and elaborating on comments from the student.

UN SAYS HEROIN ADDICTION TREATMENT SHOULD BE BASED ON SUBSTITUTE PRESCRIBING
Unequivocal backing from UN agencies for methadone and other forms of long term maintenance
treatments as the prime modality for the treatment of dependence on heroin and allied drugs. In
contrast say international experts, detoxification results in poor long term outcomes.

SAFER INJECTING FACILITY IN VANCOUVER SAVED LIVES
The safer injecting facility in Vancouver prevented overdose deaths, but only in the area nearest
the service, suggesting that often several facilities will be needed to make a city-wide impact.
Given the opposition they can arouse, in some cities this will not be easy.
