Thank you Vladimir and Bas,
For the mricron program, do you know the specific command line function that performs the dilation? For spm_dilate, I am not sure what input spm_dilate wants for the image. When I type in spm_dilate('nameofimg.nii'), I get the error message
"ima must be numeric, real, full, and double."
Bas, do you know what spm function I can use to convert the nifti image to the suitable (binary) format? Also, I'm not sure how I can define the kernel to systematically dilate an ROI. Could anyone care to explain briefly or send me links to informational websites?
Thank you,

Dear Vy Dihn,
Mricron by Chris Rorden is a great tool for VOI construction and manipulation. Try it!
Sincerely yours,
Vladimir
