Subject: New season of Oxford Cafe Scientifique tonight - 7:30pm Tuesday
13th Sept - Astrophysics
We are looking forward to welcoming first-time and regular audience members
to our new venue, SO Live (on St Clement's at the foot of Headington Hill)
for tonight's first Cafe of the autumn.
Tuesday 13th September 2011
Dr Andrew Levan
"Astrophysics at the extreme"
Doors open 7pm, talk starts 7:30pm. No booking required, no tickets needed,
all welcome.
See the website for details and information about the new location.
Restricted mobility attendees are reminded that they should ideally contact
the SO Live centre before 5pm if they need a parking space. All other
parking is off-site.
The capacity of the centre is 100 people - we have no idea if the change of
venue will lead to lower or higher numbers, so keen audience members are
encouraged to arrive in plenty of time to get a table. The SO Live shop
(selling all sorts of fun science tricks and gadgets) will be open during
the evening, and tha access to the upstairs room where we will hold the Cafe
is through the enthralling SO Live discovery space, which I can recommend as
a way of beguiling hours away for all ages from 2 to 102....
Hot off the press - I have just confirmed cryobiology expert Professor John
Armitage as our November 8th speaker, on what really happens to living
tissue when it is frozen. [And yes, he will make some comments on
cryogenics and the chances that everyone who has frozen their heads will
ever have of being revived....]
Looking forward to seeing you this evening,
Dr Rachel Quarrell.
