Good idea, Hal. I have others of your works safely housed on my computer -
but there are still many people who refuse to read on screen. Admittedly
they are not poets looking to read other poets, but 'lay' people with a
lifetime of print literature as their reading fare. My novel, BLUE ROSE, is
out there as an enovel - people can read it on ereader devices or on their
computer as a pdf, and at a tiny price too, but I still get people who say
they will wait until it is in print. Poets and poetry are a different bag,
and the screen does facilitate the universal exposure of poems at the best
price possible, so I shall upload, read and save your poems, with thanks to
their creator - but I'd still like to hold them as print matter in my hands.
It's a changing scene and I'm of an age where my walls are insulated by
books, books and more books.
... but I am also a retired gent on a pension, so free access to this much
literature from a writer I admire is an enormous joy personally, so I thank
you warmly (in the cold atmosphere of pre-dawn light).
Off to feed the dogs now. Later I shall read live at a festival event -
where some of the young poets read works off their handheld devices. One -
almost ten years ago now - used a laptop to read his poems through, his
voice mixed with a soundtrack of modern jazz and software to compress and
expand ... Before his time, the audience was too intrigued by his machinery
and completely lost his dynamic words (a witty Language style text).
Can you hear my dogs chomping as this ink dries on your screen?

Bard of Bassendean (I should say, "A Bard of ..." because Janet Jackson also
lives in Basso now)
