Hi Kevin
I must have missed this one!
I am off to NYC on Friday for a long weekend. Sarah submitted her
dissertation last week so this is a trip for the two of us. Mine because its
my birthday on Friday and today (7th) is the anniversary of my mother's
death so although I was dreading today (silly really its just another day in
the year) it gave me something to look forward to. I am not a Christian but
Mum was - how's this for connections -
Mum nearly died on 7th September when I was born - she went into labour
(nearly two days before I was born). She was admitted to a missionary
hospital in Uganda and had lots of serious and life-threatening
complications during labour. These started with pre-eclampsia and then an
ante-partum haemorrhage. I too nearly died. The doctor who saved both our
lives was called Dr Ivor Chance. He saved her life by donating his own
blood. So if there is a God he claimed her so many years later to the day.
Other coincidences - the Nanny I had when I had my daughter was born in the
same hospital as her parents were missionaries there. That hospital is now
part of the "state" hospital system and the mother of one of my students is
a midwife there.
I may have some interesting news for you on Friday - I am sworn to secrecy
until then. I have had to tell LSBU for reasons which will be evident on
Friday. I thought they had made an announcement on the staff gateway on our
uni-website - they hadn't it was something similar but not the same. If it
has been released, and if I have time before I leave for NYC I will let you
know.
Cheers
Anne
