Hi Simon,
Here's a question that we're now in a position to have to worry about: when is it OK to put oral history online without having explicit permission to do so? Having OH gathered over the whole of the last century in our collections, we don't have the opportunity to go and get permission to use most of it in novel contexts. So does one treat it like a regular copyright question and say that concerns about privacy should expire after a given period? What are the legal and ethical constraints? The opportunities presented by digital technology make this a very live issue and it would be very interesting if you could bring together various perspectives on this (although for all I know it may also be addressed on the Oral History Society website)
Cheers, Jeremy

Subject: [MCG] Oral history
Dear MCGers,
I am writing a series of articles on the use of oral history in museums and galleries for Museum Practice Online and would welcome contributions such as case studies.
I think I'm going to steer clear of a how to/best practice approach to recording oral history, which Museum Practice did a few years back and I guess many of the general principles will remain the same. There is also lots of good stuff on the Oral History Society website.
I was thinking of focusing on the impact of new technology on gathering, recording and presenting oral history (digitisation, conversion of old oral history formats, filming people, putting stuff on the web, etc).
Apologies for cross-posting.
Am at the Museums Association annual conference and exhibition in Brighton on Monday and Tuesday, so happy to meet and discuss there if anyone is attending.
Thanks
