Tower Hamlets Schools Library Service has embarked on a new e-resources/digital training element of its service. Whilst primarily aimed at the school librarian / school teacher community, there may well be courses of interest to higher education colleagues.

Publish your own eBook
Presenter : Jacob Turner
28th September 2011 9.30am - 12.30pm
As well as reading e-books, an exciting new possibility is to create your own. This course gives practical experience of software freely available and will enable you to work with pupils to design and distribute their work. SLS 13/11
Fronter for Libraries

30th September 2011 9.30am - 4.30pm
Libraries of the future will include e-management of resources and Fronter as a VLE provides a vehicle for libraries to ensure pupils have access to the resources they need at the right time. This course will give practical advice on how to organise your library online. SLS 14/11
Digital Copyright

This course will help you understand where licence agreements apply instead of copyright (ie. contract law), how copyright law applies to machine readable content, and how to minimise risks SLS 15/11
Copyright in a Web 2.0 World

Know how to get the required permissions when you want to use other peoples' content, be aware of the risks involved in using third party content on

Podcasting for Beginners

Podcasting is a way of publishing sound files regularly to an audience. They are usually spoken word, in the form of a news report or audio magazine

Searching Further: Alternative Sources of Information

Blogs, wikis, twitter - all can be used as sources of information in a rapidly-changing environment. In some cases, these can be the only available
sources of information, and so we cannot afford to discount them. This course looks at what is out there, how it can be searched and how to validate
and ensure integrity of information acquired through these channels. SLS 34/11
A whole-day course is £125 and a half day course is £75. All take place at the Professional Development Centre, English St London E3 4TA (Mile End tube). Lunch / refreshments are provided for whole-day courses, refreshments for the half day courses. A certificate of attendance will be provided to all participants.
