Dear Lis-linkers
Apologies for posting a blatant "plug" the list, but Lis-Link members may not be aware that Ex Libris offers a system specifically tailored for the needs of small specialist libraries.
Alephino can be hosted by libraries or by us, and is very low cost, and quick to install and get up and running.
There is a low annual subscription for the Ex Libris-hosted option, or you can choose a low one-off fee for a local installation.
Either way, Ex Libris takes care of all the "technical" matters and all support, maintenance and upgrades, so there is no need for any technical resource or expertise in your library.
Kind regards,
Robert

Subject: ILS for a small learned society library
Northamptonshire Record Society library currently has a hand-written card catalogue and a fairly obscure classification system for its c.4,000 items, mostly books, pamphlets and serials.
I'm looking for a management system that can deliver a catalogue which is easily searchable by members (no limit on keywords), offers automatic accession numbers and authority files to maintain consistency among cataloguers and even perhaps access to BL bibliographic data. Oh, and it mustn't cost much. I would love to hear the experiences of other librarians who have hauled small specialist collections into the 21st century. Any recommendations, caveats?
Thanks for any help you can offer me
