Dear Colleagues,
Many thanks for the emails of interest and support we have received in response to the RSP wiki summary page http://www.rsp.ac.uk/pmwiki/index.php?n=Institutions.Summary . This does allow some interesting statistics to be generated and is a good reflection of "the state of play" of repositories in the UK.
We are going to extend this survey worldwide through OpenDOAR, building on the work of the UK-based RSP to compile a picture of the way that repositories are run internationally.
OpenDOAR http://www.opendoar.org/ was set up to help repositories build their service through reflection and comparison with others and gathers information from both harvesting and from visiting and inspecting each individual repository. This survey and summary will be added to that work, gathering detail from administrators that cannot be harvested from the repositories themselves or obtained by inspection.
We are building on the approach taken by our RSP colleagues here at the CRC http://www.surveymonkey.com/s/9RV6CYL which is aimed at the UK only and at the HE sector, modifying questions for a wider set of repositories. While we cannot promise to include everything, we would welcome suggestions for particular questions you think would be appropriate for such a global survey. Please email them to - [log in to unmask]
We have to keep the questions to a manageable number and wish to facilitate useful comparisons across countries, softwares, types of repository etc. Short and simple is therefore probably best. Many thanks!
Regards,
Bill
